Raffi in Concert (Music Review)

No, I did not start off the new year by going to a Raffi concert. I just needed a CD to listen to during my recent trip to North Carolina, so I selected “Raffi in Concert with the Rise and Shine Band.” Having a children’s librarian background, I knew about Raffi, a name to know. So I listened to some new songs I hadn’t heard before and some recognizable tunes that Raffi made his own. My favorite tune was “Tingalayo,” as it plays with language and has a very catchy tune that everyone can enjoy together. Many of Raffi’s songs had a Caribbean feel, such as “Day O” and “Apples and Bananas.” I loved the sound effects that Raffi uses to keep the attention of the audience and encourage movement. I think what I liked most, though, was that all of the songs were positive and uplifting.

About Philip B.

I'm a recent MLS graduate seeking work as a youth services librarian in a public library. I especially enjoy organizing and presenting storytimes using my puppetry and storytelling skills. I love books, both print and electronic. I also enjoy art, music, theatre and baseball. One of my favorite summer activities is going to the NC mountains and exploring hiking trails.
